This is from a thank you letter written by staff at a Middle School in the Ontario Montclair School District about the positive impact of our Kids Pack Program, which feeds homeless and very low-income children every weekend of the school year, ensuring they show up ready to learn on Monday morning.
“Thank you for providing the Backpack Program to our students. This program offers comfort and support to our students in need. It provides the families with extra support for their children that often times is hard to come by.”
The letter goes on to describe the real impact Kids Pack has made in the life of one of their students, Israel.
“Israel asked his teacher if anybody could help his family with food and clothing. His teacher came to me knowing that United Way provides this wonderful program for students. There are 3 boys in his family and the ages range from 3 to 14 years old. His mom is the sole provider of the family and she works very long hours so Israel does his best to help out around the house and take care of his younger brother, all to help support his mother. Israel is a caring young man and the adults on campus support and care about him.
When Israel found out that the Backpack Program existed in middle school, he had the biggest smile on his face. By being a part of this program he has made connections with more adults on campus, which has made a positive impact on him. Israel is a special education student, that is generally very shy, but asking for help and knowing that there are adults on campus and programs that help take care of kids has helped him to break out of his shell. We are so happy and honored to be a part of this wonderful program and we cannot thank United Way enough for the positive impact they make in the lives of kids.”
