Inland Empire United Way is proud to announce UPS as our 2012 August Company of the Month!
Every day, UPS links millions of organizations and individuals together, by delivering an average of 15 million packages and documents in more than 220 countries and territories. Their mission to connect people does not end with packages, but extends into the community with a large focus on corporate responsibility and creating a work environment centered around giving back. Nationally, UPS and their employees have given more than $1 billion to United Way since the beginning of our relationship with them in 1982. To date, no other organization has reached this milestone. At the local level, UPS employees, along with a 15% corporate match, collectively gave nearly $700,000 to Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) last year, earning UPS the distinction of being IEUW's largest financial contributor. This achievement was reached primarily through employee paycheck giving, but in addition each department of UPS holds special events to raise additional funds and to liven up the giving campaigns. The talents at UPS are numerous and varied and lend themselves to some fun and creative events including a magic show, a haunted house, bbq's, backpack drives, ice cream carts, chili cook offs, etc. It seems each time we talk to someone at UPS they have come up with a new way to make giving back fun.
Involvement with IEUW and the nonprofits we support is clearly a priority for UPS employees as evidenced by the paycheck donations we receive, but these employees often give something just as valuable in addition to money – their time. The employees of UPS are regular faces at our volunteer activities and step up for any number of projects. They have helped us paint murals at schools and make over our Teacher Resource Center, often bring groups to pack bags of food for our Kids Pack program and stock the shelves for School Tools, and have been invaluable resources for our Community Impact Partners by activities such as cleaning and reorganizing food pantries or handing out hygiene kits to the homeless. With this kind of volunteering spirit it is little wonder UPS has twice won United Way Worldwide's Spirit of America award, the organization's highest national honor for corporate involvement and commitment to building better communities, as well as the honor of being among IEUW's Company of the Month recipient's two years in a row!
We sincerely thank UPS and all of their employees for showing us all what it means to LIVE UNITED!
