Inland Empire United Way is pleased to announce Citrus Motors Ford and Kia of Ontario as our February Company of the Month.
This January Citrus Motors showed their commitment to helping not just their customers, but the entire community by becoming the presenting sponsor for Inland Empire United Way’s Challenge for Children Winter Benefit. Concerned by the statistics that one in three families in the Inland Empire are living below self-sufficiency standard, Citrus Motors dealer Dennis Shannon, Jr. hoped partnering with the Inland Empire United Way would assist in rounding-up support in the local community. As a father of four children, Shannon was saddened to hear stories of children in surrounding neighborhoods not being able to go to school because they didn’t have proper shoes, clothes, or school supplies. “Sponsoring this event is just one way to help get the word out that our very own community needs aid, and it needs people’s time,” says Shannon. Their support was tremendous and helped us to attract more than 370 community and business leaders to raise almost $50k for local programs helping children in low-income families with proceeds from the evening going to support the work of Inland Empire United Way and Hope Reigns Foundation. Through initiatives like IEUW's Kids Pack, School Tools, and Mentor Connection and HRF's education and sports programs, we are able to see positive results: improved academic performance, increased likelihood to attend college, improved health, a reduction in negative behaviors among our youth, and ultimately more children reaching future self-sufficiency. In 2012, over 50,000 low-income children will benefit from the work of Inland Empire United Way and Hope Reigns Foundation in our local communities with the tremendous support of companies like Citrus Motors.
